Brawl of America
Annually on Memorial Day Weekend
The Brawl of America Stage Combat Workshop is an opportunity to train in the art of performing violence on stage and screen that is both safe and dramatically effective. Our instructors are leaders in the industry with national renown. We offer a variety of classes that explore the diverse applications of choreographed violence within the contexts of dramatic storytelling. Situated between the downtowns of the Twin Cities MN, the workshop is accessible and nestled in one of the most vibrant performing arts communities in the country.
Human Combat Chess
Annually in June
Founded in 2011, Human Combat Chess (HCC) is a sports-fiction production that features the Midwest Combat Chess League, a collection of eight teams of highly- and uniquely- skilled athletes. Each team fills the traditional sixteen roles per side of a chess board, whose moves are dictated by the King of their team. Once a square is occupied by two opposing teams, however, all bets are off; the players arm themselves from a selection of weapons - swords, staffs, and axes, just to name a few - to determine which team holds the square. Even a call of checkmate can be overturned!
