Six Elements is hosting a theatrical intimacy intensive on May 29th (Monday) at the Anne Simley Theatre of Hamline University, taught by Certified Intimacy Director Alec Barbour. Registration to these classes are open to both the general public, and at a discount for students attending Brawl of America.
The two classes, both three hours each, are intended for different levels of experience with theatrical intimacy: the morning class is for those looking to learn or review the principles of consent-based rehearsal practices, while the afternoon class, Intimacy for the Stage is intended for those who already apply these practices to add nuance to their own work.
Tuition Fee: $175 for both workshops/ $100 individually, or $150 for both/ $75 individually for BRAWL attendees.

We've spent this pandemic working towards our next production - an untold martial arts epic inspired by historical medieval fencing masters. We want to give you a glimpse into our process of creating this new show, so we are hosting a virtual event titled Mastercuts: Behind the Script. We will share the premise of the show, a diverse array of historical research with theatrical inspirations, and even a showcase of scenes and swordplay!
A show suffused with elements from spy fiction and comic books, secret agent seduction and ninja fights, all while wrestling with owning the future that destiny thrusts upon you.

Join us on March 4th at Moon Palace Books in Minneapolis for a community event and fundraiser based around a reading of our next production, “The Continuing Adventures of John Blade, Superspy” by Kyle Encinas. We’ll have some light refreshments, and extra food and drink can be brought in from Geek Love Cafe, the attached diner.

The Brawl of America Stage Combat Workshop is an opportunity to train in the art of performing violence on stage and screen that is both safe and dramatically effective. Our instructors are leaders in the industry with national renown. We offer a variety of classes that explore the diverse applications of choreographed violence within the contexts of dramatic storytelling. Situated near downtown Minneapolis, MN, the workshop is easily accessible and nestled in one of the most vibrant performing arts communities in the country.

Returning for the 6th year in a row, Human Combat Chess 2017 presents the Celts and the Legion as they compete for 2017’s Midwest Combat Chess League Championship! The stakes have never been higher as the teams #AssumeTheBoard in the best two out of three format shown in last year’s All-Star game!
The Brawl of America is a two-day stage combat workshop operated as a project of Six Elements Theatre and sanctioned by the Society of American Fight Directors. Taking place May 27-28 at the University of Minnesota’s Rarig Center in Minneapolis, the Brawl gives students an opportunity to take classes in a variety of disciplines at all skill levels. Workshop staff gather from across the country to run special sessions on fighting for film, historical swordplay, as well as the foundational elements of slaps, punches, chokes, falls, and so much more.
Accompanied by an implacable Seer, Childe Roland (so called because he is not yet a knight) enters the mystical, blighted land of the Elf King to save his sister, lost to that realm by ancient and impossible rules. Along the way he crosses paths with the residents of that place, and each encounter pulls him closer to his dark destiny and and the fateful climax against the wicked elf king.
It's Six Elements' sixth year with Human Combat Chess! This year, we're presenting a mid-season all-star game with representatives from each team in the Midwest Combat Chess League as they band together for a best-two-out-of-three game exhibition match. Learn skills from several of the Twin Cities top fight directors. Performances are April 28-May 7th 2016- you heard right, HCC is early this year! Rehearsals begin in late February, with varying levels of time commitment depending on the role cast. Roles are available for both combatant and non-combatant players, with opportunities to shadow and learn different styles of fight choreography.

No advance preparation needed. You'll be taught a short fight and paired with a choreographer. Perfection is not expected, we just want to see how you learn and how you move. (Please dress for movement- no sandals, etc)
