Standup grappling offers us a variety of tools as violent storytellers.  This class will focus on the structure of standup grappling positions, the transitions we can use to move between them, and the striking options available when creating distance is no longer our primary safety.

As sources for Historic European Martial Arts continue to become available and more people become knowledgeable about these techniques, there is a desire to add more of these to stage combat.  In this class we will use the 16th century Bolognese system of Achille Marozzo, Antonio Manciolino, and Giovanni Dall’Agocchie as a case study in how to take a historic system and translate it to the stage.

Twister is a game of physical skill where players will often be required to put themselves in unlikely or precarious positions. Twisterbuckling is a game of the same nature, only... with swords. Using a Twister mat and stock Single Sword phrases, this class explores small space usage, how intentions play a huge part in telling a story, and the vital importance of communication.
